PROJECT PLAY INTERNATIONAL PARTNERS

STATE OF PLAY CANADA YOUTH SURVEY 2025

In partnership with Project Play, Jumpstart Canadian Tire Charities is conducting a nationwide State of Play survey of youth ages 8 -18 to inform long-term action planning to ensure every Canadian youth has access to quality sport opportunities.  The data from our first survey was incredibly valuable and you can learn more here.

As a sport provider, we need your help to distribute the survey to the young people you serve. There are three easy steps to distributing the survey:

  • Register your organization in our system

  • Share the survey with families as instructed (via email, social media, flyers)

  • Monitor your progress in our system and check back to view your data upon survey completion

We have provided some additional information about the registration process, the survey and how the data will be used below. If you have any questions or need any additional information, please contact jennifer.lerner@aspeninstitute.org.

Registration

During registration, our system will collect some basic information about your program that will take less than 5 minutes to complete.  This includes location of your organization, number of coaches, sports offered and costs. Individual responses will not be made publicly available, rather the full data will be analyzed.

Survey Background and Distribution

The State of Play Youth Survey is available via an easy, online platform maintained by Resonant Education that safeguards the anonymity of survey responses from young people. The platform will provide access for each registered organization to view their own data alongside our national data. The State of Play Youth Survey collects basic demographic information, current sport participation, interest in new sports, reasons for current participation, and experiences and impact of current sport from young people aged 8-18.

Upon registration, you will receive an email with your organization’s unique survey link and distribution tools. We have four methods of distribution and encourage you to try them all. They include:

  • Directly via email

  • A QR code

  • A flyer

  • On social media

STATE OF PLAY CANADA 2023

In 2022 Project Play, in partnership with Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, used a State of Play Youth Survey to gather feedback from young people about their participation and feelings about sports. The project gathered baseline data on sport preferences, relationships with adults in the context of sport and rationale for levels of participation from young people across Canada.

Using the findings from the report, JumpStart consulted with stakeholders and experts across Canada to develop a State of Play report for the country’s sports sector.
