The National Youth sport Survey collects the following information:

  • Basic demographic information (grade, gender identity, race/ethnicity, disability status) without any personally identifiable information (PII)

  • Current sports participation and interest in trying new sports

  • Reasons why you do or don't participate in sports

All young people 10-17 years old are invited to take the National Youth Sport Survey by November 30, 2025. All responses are anonymous. Completion of the survey is voluntary; participants have the options to skip/not respond to any of the questions.


Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

  • How long will the survey take?

    • Approximately 10-15 minutes.

  • Is the survey offered in additional languages?

    • The survey is available in English and Spanish.

  • Who can take this survey?

    • All young people ages 10-17 in the U.S. are eligible. Current athletes, former athletes and never athletes are encouraged to complete to take this survey.

  • When will the results be shared?

    • We plan to release a public report with key findings in spring 2026.

  • What topics are covered on the survey?

    • Basic demographic information

    • Sports played or interested in trying

    • Rationale for participation and non-participation in organized sport

    • Level of enjoyment of sport

    • Perceptions of parent behavior, coaches, sport environments, safety and future ambitions

For Organizations:

  • Is there any cost to access the survey and the portal?

    • No, the portal is completely free for all participating organizations.

  • What kind of data will I see in my portal?

    • You will see a dashboard with aggregated, anonymized data from respondents who used your organization’s unique survey link. You can filter results based on the demographic questions in the survey.

  • How can I encourage my members to take the survey?

    • Upon registering, we’ll provide you with a unique link and promotional toolkit, including newsletter copy, social graphics and flyers to make distribution easy.

FOR SCHOOLS:

  • How will our students’ data be protected?

    • No personally identifiable information (PII) will be collected; therefore, no PII is stored.

    • Respondents have the option to skip or give a non-answer to any question.

    • Participation is 100% optional.

  • How can I share the survey with my students?

    • Encourage families via family communication tools (email, Peach Jar, etc.).

    • School leaders, teachers, and coaches can directly share the survey with students using communication tools in the portal.
